Doc: Will I survive?
Part Two – Side effects and medical follow up
It helps to learn more about the side effects from your treatment(s) before you begin, so you will know what to expect. When you know more, you can work with your health care team to manage your quality of life during and after treatment.
Side-effects of treatment and how they may affect you as a survivor are too important to address in a single paragraph in this article. We will dedicate entries to this important topic in 2022. It will be part of our monthly rendez-vous.

Will I survive the side effects? What about the anxiety-driven medical follow-ups?
Yes you will survive treatment side effects. You will speak up about them and find ways to cope because you are a survivor. This being said, it does not mean you will accept them. For some men, side effects are a distant memory and they have moved on. For others, those men with permanent effects of their treatment, although rare, it is a whole other ball-game. For them, their testicular cancer was and is a game-changer.
As for medical follow up...
Follow ups and test results are always a trigger for anxiety. I am OK? Did we kill this cancer? Is it out of my body for good? Long term regular follow-ups are important in the treatment of your testicular cancer. You will have to undergo various tests that will inform your doctor and healthcare team about your general health and they can adjust your treatments, if need be, accordingly. It is critically important to do all of the tests your doctor asks and show up for your follow-up appointments and try your best to stay on the schedule your doctor has laid out for you. Delays in testing or missing visits can lead to steps backwards instead of forward in your treatment and recovery.
Ouff! You know all of this, but there is still that afterthought... What about afterward?
